The Queue: Almost 7 years since release

Welcome back to The Queue, the daily Q&A column in which the WoW Insider team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Mathew McCurley (@gomatgo) will be your host for today.

I logged into Azeroth for the first time in May 2004. It is now November 2011. World of Warcraft has been part of my life in one way or another for more than seven years. This thing is still going strong. Who could have predicted that this is where the MMO genre was going, especially in the seven years since we first heard about instanced dungeons, no-fail crafting, hearthstones and rested experience? It’s been a long time.

@tagegould on Twitter asked:

Do you think we’ll be cursed with over-exaggerated accents for our panda men?

15 Minutes of Fame: (Almost) 15 authors of fame

From Hollywood celebrities to the guy next door, millions of people have made World of Warcraft a part of their lives. How do you play WoW? We’re giving each approach its own 15 Minutes of Fame.

15 Minutes of Fame tries to feature as wide a variety of WoW players as possible. It’s not only about being famous in the real world, or being a somebody in the WoW community, or playing WoW despite some remarkable circumstance. 15 Minutes covers all those things, yes … But we also try to talk with players who are representative of the typical player experience — ambassadors of the Folks Next Door, if you will.

But no matter how we try to balance things, we always seem to end up back at another interview with an author. Writers who game are a particular bunch. They always have a lot to say about the fantasy genre and the game lore and way the world of Azeroth is unfolding; it makes for a pretty interesting interview. So when we realized that we’d pretty much overshot the bottom of our dance card despite the line of authors winding past the punch bowl and out the door … Well, we decided it was time to give everyone a full helping of nothing but WoW-playing writers. With our common enjoyment of WoW and the fantasy genre, we figure most readers will find something from these authors they’ll want to curl up with on the couch.

Welcome, then, to 15 Minutes of Fame’s list of (Almost) 15 WoW-Playing Authors of Fame.

The Queue: Almost our celestial anniversary

Welcome back to The Queue, the daily Q&A column in which the WoW Insider team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Today’s Queue is brought to you by Mathew McCurley and the letter F.

Yay, I get to write The Queue today! With a patch 4.1 release candidate on the PTR, as well as the one-year anniversary (April 15) of the Celestial Steed, it seems that we should be expecting many things happening within the next few weeks in WoW. Oh, boy! We live in exciting times.

Sparkle pony, it was almost one year since I wrote about your majesty, your grace and starry beauty. How could anyone say no to the steed from the stars? Now, we have your successor, the winged guardian, a presumably Uldum-esque creature that soars through the cataclysmic skies with the strength of the desert it has been unearthed from. I hope part of the story involves Harrison Jones finding a secret factory under the Temple of Uldum, where 5 million winged guardians await, ready to be sold and taken home “off the lot,” as it were.

walkerspace asked:

Dear Queue,

There seems to be an increase in bot activity (while I’m herbing; I want it all!). Is there anything Bizzard can do about it? Or, is the perceived activity simply more characters in the game fighting over the same limited resource?
