The Darkmoon Faire begins!

The brand new Darkmoon Island opens for business today for the very first time. The WoW Insider staff is extremely eager to jump right into the celebrations, especially those of us that squeezed in a few hours of it on the PTR — that brief taste made the anticipation all the sweeted. There are games to play, mounts and pets to purchase, and sweet, sweet transmogrification gear to get our hands on.

If you weren’t able to check out the Faire on the PTR and you’re utterly lost as to what to do there, no worries. Our test realm coverage may help you out a little.

The one question everybody seems to be asking but nobody thought to answer is … how the heck do you get to the Darkmoon Island? Do you fly there? Is there a boat? No, neither of those things. It’s much easier than that. The former carnival grounds in Elwynn Forest (just south of Goldshire) or Mulgore (just west of Thunder Bluff) will get you there. Go to one of those two areas, find the great big portal to Darkmoon Island, and you’re on your way. Going through the portal will even earn you what is possibly one of the easiest achievements in the entire game: Come One, Come All!

Know Your Lore: The war begins

The World of Warcraft is an expansive universe. You’re playing the game, you’re fighting the bosses, you know the how — but do you know the why? Know Your Lore covers the history of the story behind World of Warcraft.

It’s going to get worse before it gets better.

In his Dev Watercooler about faction favoritism, Blizzard’s Dave Kosak made this point, and it’s a good one to make. In a World of Warcraft, the lore works to drive us forward, cresting on the waves of what’s coming next. In patch 4.3, we’re finally going to get to see the events of the War of the Ancients, fight alongside dragon aspects and the great heroes of the past and secure Azeroth’s future. But in so doing, we find ourselves forced to deal with the aftermath of Deathwing’s actions. The Azeroth we inherit is one that bears the legacy of the Wrathgate, where Horde and Alliance forever surrendered tentative attempts at peace and cooperation. The Azeroth we save is battered by years of conflict against terrible adversaries, and in this diminished, broken world, the Horde eyes the Alliance like a wolf views a sick elk.

This is where the war starts. The Fourth War, it may be called. The War for Azeroth, the battle between mortals, for mortal concerns. At last, at long last, the battle postponed by the Third War can finally happen.

The Queue: Narcissism begins

Welcome back to The Queue, the daily Q&A column in which the WoW Insider team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Alex Ziebart will be your host today.

The next few editions of The Queue written by yours truly (generally Mondays and Wednesdays) will come packaged with a very special gift: narcissism. A few readers came through on my spur-of-the-moment art request, so why not show them off, eh? Today’s header image (which, as you now notice, is clickable) is drawn by Matt Krotzer, who you may or may not have seen in the comments before. He’s kind of shy. Doesn’t talk a whole lot, you know?

Andrew R. asked:

Do you think Blizzard will raise the level cap for guilds in the next expansion or just add more rewards tied to achievements?
