Patch 4.3: Blizzard’s official preview of the Hour of Twilight heroic dungeon

Included with the preview are some unsettling images of Wyrmrest Temple crawling with the tentacles of Old God minions, as well as some shots of the surrounding areas. There are three bosses mentioned with the preview: Arcurion, a formidable water ascendant who is tasked with killing Thrall; Asria Dawnslayer, a deadly agent of the Twilight’s Hammer; and a third face who should be instantly recognizable to Alliance players. If you want to avoid spoiler content, I’d avoid the preview, but the third boss is a shock for those familiar with him in game so far.
Did we mention Thrall? That’s right, he’s there too, and players must escort him and the Dragon Soul safely to Wyrmrest Temple. I’m having flashbacks to CoT: Durnholde Keep, but they are good flashbacks. From the looks of things, these events tie directly into Thrall: Twilight of the Aspects; those who are wanting to know more about the events in Hour of Twilight should check out that novel.
All in all, it looks like the three dungeons are similar to the last three dungeons of Wrath of the Lich King. They tie into the final raid encounter in a crucial way, and the story is interlocked between all three dungeons. Check out the official website for the full preview, plenty of images, and more boss information.

Patch 4.3: Blizzard’s official preview of the End Time heroic dungeon

After the round of interviews about Patch 4.3 last night, Blizzard has released a preview of the first in the upcoming linked, thematic Caverns of Time dungeons that we’ll be exploring in our efforts to defeat Deathwing once and for all: End Time. It’s a doozy.
Unlike previous CoT instances, this one sends the players into the future after Deathwing wins, to help Nozdormu find the reason he’s blocked from accessing the past — specifically, to the time before the Demon Soul was hidden by Malfurion. Along the way, you’re forced to battle various former Horde and Alliance leaders, now reduced to echoes of their former sanity, and then the mysterious, malefic maestro of madness Murozond, an anomaly in the timestream not even Nozdormu can unravel.
Check out all the screenshots and get a preview of the experience at the official site, already. Not even a Volkswagen Beetle van full of heavily armed people could stop me now.

Blizzard’s APIs and You: Cool information and tools coming down the pipe

Recently, Blizzard disabled the WoWArmory Facebook application, signaling that the time of the modern WoW Armory is over and we will soon live in an age when new Blizzard APIs will transform our out-of-game experience. And change it, they will. These forthcoming APIs will change the way you interact with WoW outside of the game in ways you cannot even think up yet. How do I know this? That’s the power of information facilitation, and some inventive hypotheticals will show you what Blizzard’s APIs will do for you in the near future.
Over the past few months, Blizzard has been preparing to roll out a new set of APIs that will take internal information from the Armory, the new community site, and more, parse it into easily manageable data streams, and make those streams available to application developers. With these new streams of information, savvy developers can craft web applications, smartphone apps, social media plugins, and anything else under the sun to provide you with new and dynamic WoW experiences on the internet. I know that sounds horribly cliché, but hear me out — this stuff is pretty cool, and the back end could bring about a new standard for information availability and MMOs.
I’m not a developer. In fact, a lot of us in the community are not developers. Writing this story felt like an exercise in obscurity because, frankly, all this back end information isn’t in my wheelhouse. As I dug deeper and began to realize the potential of the systems being set up, I fell in love with the idea that Blizzard is opening up easy access to so much information. I thought it would be a good idea to illustrate for those of us who have no idea what APIs are capable of, to break through the programmer/developer talk and discuss what these APIs mean for us, at the end of the day.

Addon Spotlight: Blizzard’s built-in raid profiles

Each week, WoW Insider’s Mathew McCurley brings you a fresh look at reader-submitted UIs as well as Addon Spotlight, which focuses on the backbone of the WoW gameplay experience: the user interface. Everything from bags to bars, buttons to DPS meters and beyond — your addons folder will never be the same.
Welcome to Magical Mat’s Addonitorium and Fun Palace, where all of your user interface and addon dreams come true! Gaze at the mystical River of Lua. Treat your eyes to the unbridled spectacle of the Profile Forest. Enter, if you dare, the dreaded Cave of Errors … Actually, I lied. There isn’t an Addonitorium; it’s just my living room. The Fun Palace is a closet with a vacuum and a Swiffer. The wet kind of Swiffer.
This week’s addon really isn’t an addon, but I think that the functionality that this feature provides — and provides for everyone regardless of what you download — has changed a great deal for the better over time. With patch 4.2, Blizzard introduced a new Raid Profiles interface option for players to tinker with. Customization on a Blizzard feature? Say it ain’t so! Credit where credit is due, kind readers, for Blizzard is on the path to perfection with these additions to its new raid frames.
