Reader UI of the Week: Javey’s UI and the UI crashing blues

Each week, WoW Insider brings you a fresh look at reader-submitted UIs as well as Addon Spotlight, which spotlights the latest user interface addons. Have a screenshot of your own UI that you’d like to submit? Send your screenshots along with info on what mods you’re using to readerui@wowinsider.com.

Reader UI of the Week is going to take a personal twist this week. First, I will present a tale of user interface sadness and woe, and second, I will discuss the all-important backup plan ideology. Last night was truly a catastrophe for my user interface, and many of you will hopefully lend your good wishes and support to my sad, grieving heart.

This week’s UI comes from Javey, who uses LUI as his base setup and adds on some needed functionality that doesn’t come stock with the excellent full user interface replacement. While LUI’s design is not his own, Javey does still need to make the right decisions when it comes to completeness, as LUI does not provide every piece of the UI puzzle, especially for healers. Your knowledge of heal-intensive interface components will still be tested even if you use a full UI replacement package.

Around Azeroth: Tol Barad prison blues

When I was just a newbie, my guidmate told me, “See, if you like your reputation, you’ll never PvP.” But I cursed a man in Hillsbrad just to watch him scream. When will I get out of this battleground? I can only dream. (Thanks to Scott for the screenshot submission!)

The Daily Blues

Each day, WoW Insider takes you through all the blue posts and other Blizzard news from around the internet. From the latest posts from Ghostcrawler (lead systems designer) to the lowdown on StarCraft 2 and Diablo 3, we’ll keep you informed.

People often ask if the blues, or Blizzard employees in general, ever tell guildies who they are in game. I know that a few of them have, but only if their eventual discovery is inevitable or if they really really trust the person. Otherwise, I’ve been told they keep it quite secret. Zarhym talks about it in a blue post in today’s edition of The Daily Blues.

In today’s Daily Blues, Nethaera comments more on the great holy paladin nerf of December 2010 (followed, no doubt, by the great cooking nerf of 2011).

We’ve been sparse on running this, because honestly, there’s not a lot the blues are saying that isn’t just repeats of what’s been said before. But a lot of you like this feature, so we’re picking it back up now. Ghostcrawler has apparently left day-to-day posting on the forums, at least for now. So don’t expect to have your daily bit of the crab. /sniff

Today’s blue posts, after the break.

BlizzCon 2010: Blues among you

BlizzCon 2010 is almost here! If you’re headed to BlizzCon 2010, you may notice something a little different this year. Unlike years past, when Community Team interaction was restricted largely to moderating panels, this year the blues will come to you — on the convention floor, that is. Blue poster Nethaera announced this interesting change of procedure on the official forums earlier today.

Nethaera
For the past few years, you may have noticed Community Team members moderating the various BlizzCon panels. This year, things are a little bit different. Instead of moderating panels, we’ll be providing BlizzCon updates on the forums, Facebook, and Twitter as well as mingling with attendees around the convention center. That’s right, this year we will be among you and look forward to getting meet and talk with you during the convention. If you see one of us, feel free to stop us and say, “Hi”.

This begs the question — who’s going to moderate all those panels? Regardless, this is apt to be a fun change for the Community Manager Team. So if you ever wanted to say hello to your favorite flickering candle or floating skull, keep your eyes peeled on the convention floor — they could be right behind you!
