Patch 4.3 changes make leveling fishing a breeze

Do you loathe leveling the fishing profession? Can’t stand spending hours casting in pools? According to El over at El’s Professions, there was a change put through in patch 4.3 that nobody noticed, one that will make your plight a little easier. In patch 4.3, the number of catches required to level fishing from 1 to 525 has been roughly halved. In addition, the number of catches per skill point above 300 fishing and especially above 450 also seems to have had an adjustment — one point of skill can take between one and 13 casts to gain.

El has put together a new skill-up table over on El’s Extreme Anglin’, but be warned, the pattern may not be fully understood just yet. El is welcoming any observations over on the El’s Extreme Anglin’ forums for fishing enthusiasts.

At any rate, if you’ve been putting off picking up your fishing pole and finishing off those skill points, now would be an excellent time to start fishing!

Brace yourselves for what could be some of most exciting updates to the game recently with patch 4.3. Review the official patch notes, and then dig into what’s ahead: new item storage options, cross-realm raiding, cosmetic armor skinning and your chance to battle the mighty Deathwing — from astride his back!

Scattered Shots: 4.3 bonus hunter changes

Every Thursday, WoW Insider brings you Scattered Shots for beast mastery, marksmanship and survival hunters. Frostheim of Warcraft Hunters Union uses logic and science (mixed with a few mugs of Dwarven stout) to look deep into the hunter class. Mail your hunter questions to Frostheim.

At long last, patch 4.3 is live, bringing with it the great hunter balancing buffs (and the pesky melee buff that we don’t benefit from — but the video above demonstrates pretty clearly that hunters need no melee buff). At the outset, the patch is looking like a good thing for hunter spec balance, boosting BM and SV up to levels that are nearly indistinguishable from MM DPS.

We also got a nice little surprise buff to SV that alters the base SV rotation — and actually has the potential to give SV that last little push into first place, possibly slipping ever so slightly past MM in the DPS charts.

Join me after the cut for a quick recap of what we’re seeing in patch 4.3 and the T.N.T. cooldown change that looks like it’s going to change the SV hunter shot choices.

Spiritual Guidance: Mists of Pandaria spell and talent changes for shadow priests

Every week, WoW Insider brings you Spiritual Guidance for discipline, holy and shadow priests. On Wednesdays, shadow priesting expert Fox Van Allen comes from out of the shadows to bask in your loving adoration. He is also scientifically proven more beautiful than boomkin blogger Tyler Caraway.

When we first talked about the new-for-Mists of Pandaria talent trees after BlizzCon, there were still a lot of questions to be answered. The main question, of course, was this: What will happen to all the talents that were removed from the old Cataclysm-era trees?

Well, wonder no more. Last night, Blizzard went live with an all-new MoP talent calculator. Not only does it contain the new talents we talked about last month, but it also contains a list of what spells will be baseline for what specs and when they’re learned.

“Don’t worry,” Blizzard noted. “If you don’t see your favorite talent, we’ve probably just given it to your spec automatically while leveling.” And it’s true — shadow priests get a lot of good stuff as baseline abilities, and we’re getting a lot of it sooner than you’d expect. But not every shadow priest spell and ability made the cut. In fact, if they all make it to the live version of the game, there are some very surprising changes, additions, and omissions.
