Scattered Shots: Patch 4.3 hunter changes

Every Thursday, WoW Insider brings you Scattered Shots for beast mastery, marksmanship and survival hunters. Frostheim of Warcraft Hunters Union uses logic and science (mixed with a few mugs of Dwarven stout) to look deep into the hunter class. Mail your hunter questions to Frostheim.

That magical time is almost here — patch 4.3 is just around the corner. No, we don’t yet know for sure when it’s going to land, but we’re expecting it any week now. We’ve been watching and testing on the PTR, and one Tuesday soon, we’ll get to play with all the shiny new changes ourselves … and cross our fingers and hope Blizzard slipped in some kind of awesome undocumented change, like removing elves or shaman from the game.

Last week, we covered most of the patch 4.3 hunter gear that’s coming, and this week, we’ll be looking into all of the hunter changes that the patch is bringing us. And it’s a good thing we waited until this week too, as we got yet more hunter changes just in the past few days.

None of the hunter changes are huge game-changers this time around. Instead, what we’re seeing is a collection of minor buffs and tweaks to BM and SV in an attempt to bring the specs up closer to MM DPS levels.

Join me after the cut for the roundup of the 4.3 hunter changes.

Ghostcrawler explains patch 4.3 balance changes

With patch 4.3 on the horizon, Greg “Ghostcrawler” Street (lead systems designer) has taken to the WoW community blog to discuss class and balance changes that are coming with the next big update to the game. Ghostcrawler had previously discussed some balance changes in part one of his balance change blogs, but it was missing some classes that Blizzard wasn’t ready to talk about just yet. Now, we’ve got notes and discussions on each class currently in game. I’m a huge fan of Ghostcrawler’s to-the-point blog posts about the focus and design of classes, and this is just another in the now long line of awesome insights into the design process.

Death knight and druid tanks are getting some buffs to bring them more in line with the block-heavy warriors and paladins, and block capping for both warriors and paladins is not being discouraged. Feral druids are getting a Glyph of Shred change that will hopefully help their rotations, and beast mastery hunters are getting a slight buff. As we found out from before, paladins’ Holy Radiance is getting a change to be more of a focused AOE heal, and priests are getting a buff to Guardian Spirit.

Shaman initially were hit with a huge Wind Shear nerf, which has been rolled back slightly. Demonology and destruction warlocks are getting a slight buff to be more competitive with afflocks, and hopefully warrior “charge jumping” has been fixed for good. You’ve promised me this before, Ghostcrawler! Where’s my charge-jumping pony-moose? Check out the full blog post after the jump.

Shifting Perspectives: Upcoming talent changes for balance

Every week, WoW Insider brings you Shifting Perspectives for cat , bear , restoration and balance druids. Balance news comes at you every Friday — learn how to master the forces of nature, and know what it means to be a giant laser turkey! Send questions, comments, or something you’d like to see to tyler@wowinsider.com.

We are back for the first article post-BlizzCon, and as with many of the other writers for WoW Insider, it’s time to talk about what the next expansion holds for balance druids. Mists of Pandaria looks to hold many exciting new features for the game on top of an entirely redesigned talent and specialization system. While how everything will pan out is still nothing but speculation, there are a few things in particular which are worth exploring, especially for druids.

I’m no stranger to hand-waving, crackpot theories; today’s article is no exception to that. No one knows precisely what the next expansion is going to hold for WoW, not even the people working on it, but I can give you my observations from the outside looking in. Keep that in mind, however, this article is merely how things seem from the glimpse of the future that BlizzCon provided. Everything is subject to change, rebalancing, and various other changes. That over and done with, let’s get started.

Totem Talk: 4.3 changes for elemental shaman – Joystiq

Totem Talk: 4.3 changes for elemental shaman
Joystiq
All in all, it's a good change for the spec, especially if you're planning on playing World of Warcraft through the next few expansions. The downside? It's a slight nerf to newly 85 elemental shaman in Cataclysm. It's looking to be about a 3% damage

Totem Talk: 4.3 changes for elemental shaman

New Lightning Bolt spell effect vs. Mannoroth

Every week, WoW Insider brings you Totem Talk for elemental, enhancement, and restoration shaman. Josh Myers once only tackled the hard questions about enhancement but has recently expanded his sphere of responsibility to all shaman DPS specs. (And no, two-handed enhancement is still never coming back.)

It’s crazy for me to think that it’s been nearly four weeks since the first patch notes detailing class changes went up on the PTR. Three Saturdays back, I devoted the first post to tier 13 so as to benefit both specs of DPS shaman. Two weeks ago, it was enhancement changes. And, in my most recent post, elemental changes got pushed to the back burner after the elemental tier 12 set bonus got nerfed hard on the PTR.

So, nearly a calendar month after PTR notes first went up, it’s high time to discuss some of the awesome (and not-so-awesome) changes in store for elemental shaman in patch 4.3.

Totem Talk: Enhancement shaman changes in patch 4.3

Every week, WoW Insider brings you Totem Talk for elemental, enhancement, and restoration shaman. Josh Myers once only tackled the hard questions about enhancement but has recently expanded his sphere of responsibility to all shaman DPS specs. (And no, two-handed enhancement is still never coming back.)

I won’t lie: The past few months have left me fairly disillusioned about playing an enhancement shaman. Nothing in Cataclysm will ever match the absolute horror that was the last patch of Wrath of the Lich King for enhancement. However, our total lack of scaling with secondary stats that aren’t mastery, horrific AOE DPS every patch, and our total lack of any form of worthwhile DPS cooldown have all been ingredients in the lukewarm dish that is enhancement. If this was Iron Chef: America, even Alton Brown would be hard pressed to make us sound good.

Thankfully, the 4.3 PTR is up, and with it comes some changes to enhancement shaman that have me excited.
