Wouldn't this be cool? The dark trolls and the underworld

Blood Pact: Dark Intent update and T13 gearing

Every week, WoW Insider brings you Blood Pact for affliction, demonology and destruction warlocks. For those who disdain the watered-down arts that other cling to like a safety blanket … for those willing to test their wills against the nether and claim the power that is their right … Blood Pact welcomes you. Send questions, comments, or requests to tyler@wowinsider.com or via Twitter to @murmursofadruid.
Greeting again, darklings. It’s that time of the week once more for us to talk about all that drives our purpose: bringing horrible pain to our enemies. There are multiple cogs in our wheel of destruction, but this week I want to focus in on two of those. To start, there’s the small matter of the ever-constant debate on weaponry and trinkets, something that comes up with every new tier. Second, there’s the issue of Dark Intent. While it’s been relatively established on the priority of the buff, there are a few kinks to work out, as always. The prior settlements that were made were based upon data that was relevant back in tier 11. Although there isn’t too much that has changed since this, Blizzard’s adjustments and gearing does merit bringing up the issue once more.
There can be little doubt that shadow priests are the best recipients for Dark Intent. A significantly large portion of their damage come from DoTs; furthermore, Mind Flay has a unique interaction with the ability as well that results in an even higher return. As shadow priests gain gear, more of their damage does actually shift toward Mind Blast, plus their tier 13 increases more of their non-DoT based damage. Again, none of this changes that they are still the best target for Dark Intent, but it does slightly reduce the disparity between shadow priests and non-shadow priests when getting it.

Know Your Lore: The dark mysteries of the Darkmoon Faire

Doubtless you’ve been there by now. You’ve seen the brightly colored banners, heard the cheerful greeting of the Darkmoon Faire Mystic Mages in all major cities, offering to teleport you to the portal that takes you to the new and improved Darkmoon Faire. You’ve wandered the dusty paths, drunk in the sights, played the games and watched the shows, and maybe even participated in a death match or two for fun. For a once-a-month event, the Darkmoon Faire certainly wasn’t anything special to look at until now.
In their new home, the residents of the Darkmoon Faire have a permanent residence to open to the public once a month like clockwork. Presiding over it all is Silas Darkmoon, who runs the Faire and takes in those who wish to join, with one major rule — no violence on the Fairgrounds. Travelers both Horde and Alliance alike are welcomed and encouraged to participate in the fun and games by the pleasant vendors as long as they keep any fights to the arena, and nobody is excluded.
The people of the Darkmoon Faire are certainly the most cheerful, amiable group of ruthless murderers you’ll ever meet.

Around Azeroth: No one expects the Dark Iron Dwarves!
Technically, this is more around Colorado than around Azeroth, but it’s far too cool not to post. “I was riding my bike the other day and was disturbed to notice an apparent Dark Iron incursion into Denver,” writes Kelladra of Lightbringer (US-H). “It makes sense, though. We do have a lot of microbreweries around here.”

The Daily Quest: Dark Lady watch over you
My first Horde character was a Forsaken — a priest, chosen specifically because I wanted to play an overpowered, easy class, and Forsaken shadow priests were the flavor of the month. But I was utterly enchanted by my little undead priest, her golden glowing eyes peering around when idle, the way she’d swing a staff over her head like she was smacking a rug with a broom, and how she was all knees when she jumped. I still play her, although she has yet to make the trek to 85. But the Forsaken as a whole confuse me. Should I feel bad for these former living residents of Lordaeron, cursed to live on after death and unable to reconnect with their living friends and family? Or should I feel uneasy and a little ill due to Sylvanas’ machinations and obvious plotting to use the plague against the living? I don’t know.
I do know that we’ve got two really interesting posts regarding the Forsaken today, as well as a suggestion for a new dungeon that I can really get behind.
- Cynwise’s Field Notes takes an in-depth look at the Forsaken leveling experience from vanilla to Cataclysm.
- Priest With A Cause tells us about her experiences with Forsaken leveling and how Sylvanas surprised her.
- Orcish Army Knife has an excellent suggestion for a new dungeon in an area that is so, so overdue for a complete rehaul: Stromgarde.

Know Your Lore: Karazhan and the Dark Riders of Deadwind Pass

The World of Warcraft is an expansive universe. You’re playing the game, you’re fighting the bosses, you know the how — but do you know the why? Each week, Matthew Rossi and Anne Stickney make sure you Know Your Lore by covering the history of the story behind World of Warcraft.
Sometimes it’s the characters that make Warcraft interesting, and sometimes, every now and again, it’s the locations themselves that intrigue. Nestled in the heart of the Eastern Kingdoms, in a forlorn stretch of land simply called Deadwind Pass, lies the tower of Karazhan. Once the former home of Medivh, now a demon-riddled raid instance, Karazhan’s story has far more to it than simply being the home of one of the last Guardians of Azeroth.
Rumors also abound about Deadwind Pass and its inhabitants — strange, mysterious riders cloaked in darkness. Their shrill, harsh voices echoed through the hills of Duskwood once upon a time, and the purpose of their journey was an artifact powerful enough to be the genesis for an entirely new playable race. Karazhan, Deadwind Pass, and the Dark Riders all have an enigmatic history that’s never been fully explained. But we do have hints, here and there scattered across novels and in game, that clear up a small portion of the mystery.
