Blood Pact: Distinguishing destruction from fire

Every week, WoW Insider brings you Blood Pact for affliction, demonology and destruction warlocks. For those who disdain the watered-down arts that other cling to like a safety blanket … for those willing to test their wills against the nether and claim the power that is their right … Blood Pact welcomes you. I like to think that I’ve been a solid supporter of the warlocks in their struggles against the devil mages. I know that I do have some split loyalties with the druids, but let’s be fair in saying that a druid is wicked awesome in comparison to a mage. With that in mind, know that it brings me no joy to say that I’m worried. We talked about the new talents coming in the next expansion last week, and while I love what talents warlocks had and I think the new system has some great potential, there’s one facet about it that concerns me.
Destruction and fire are very closely linked in playstyle. Both are heavy nuking specs that also utilize DOT effects to boost their damage. They both make use of an otherwise unwieldy long spell, albeit in different methods, but one cannot deny that the two specs are fairly similar. One of the key differences right now to set destruction apart from fire is Conflagration and Backdraft — destruction has a form of focus on speed that fire doesn’t. With traditional specs going out the window, one has to worry about how Blizzard intends to distinguish destruction from fire.

Anyone who says “This is the Fallout 3 song” is going to have a -3 hit to their perception.
Your speech might get knocked down a few points, too.
Robbymack asked:
Is it possible that Blizz could release a WoW expansion WITHOUT a new class or races being added? I know it’s been a selling point up to now, but I think it’s getting to the point that it’s getting unwieldy. Seriously,, I’m gonna need more character slots on my primary server if I want to roll even more alts. Do you think that having an epic leveling questline, new dungeons and raids, and maybe upgrades to profs or other features would be enough? Or do they need to add a new race or class to make an expansion feel like an expansion?

Gold Capped: Upcoming Volatile Fire shortages
Every week, WoW Insider brings you Gold Capped, in which Basil “Euripides” Berntsen and Fox Van Allen aim to show you how to make money on the Auction House. Email Basil with your questions, comments, or hate mail!
Volatile Fire is quite cheap now but will not remain so after patch 4.3. Volatiles are a cornerstone of the crafting and economic design of WoW, as each one has several types of items that require it for production. When the prices of Volatiles increase, crafted goods go up in price and raw materials go down in price.
Very few people farm exclusively for Volatiles, as they’re usually given a small chance to drop off things that are worth considerably more than the Volatiles themselves (like ore veins and elementals). That’s part of why the Volatiles market is exceptionally susceptible to changes that change the way a lot of people play and loot. In this case for Volatile Fire, right now a ton of Fires are coming from people continuing to do Fireland dailies. Patch 4.3 is around the corner and will likely have something cooler for people do with their time than grind for entry level raiding and PVP gear. What can you do to protect yourself and profit from these changes?

The Light and How to Swing It: Overthrowing the Fire Lord

Every week, WoW Insider brings you The Light and How to Swing It for holy, protection and retribution paladins. Protection specialist Matt Walsh spends most of his time receiving concussions for the benefit of 24 other people, obsessing over his hair (a blood elf racial!), and maintaining the tankadin-focused blog Righteous Defense.
Ragnaros, the Fire Lord, returns from vanilla WoW with a flaming vengeance as the last boss of the Firelands. Thanks to the recent hotfix nerfs or the culmination of weeks of hard work chipping away at the raid, many groups will be running up against Ragnaros for the first time and throwing their bodies at his waves upon waves of fiery doom.
As a whole, the fight isn’t particularly intensive to tank — there’s no real equivalent to Nefarian’s add phase here for tanks — but it’s still going to be a challenge. This encounter is the ultimate “don’t stand in bad” and will require your utmost attention to avoid being burnt to a crisp in an unfortunate moment of tunnel-visioning. Strap on those attention goggles, zip up that flame-retardant suit, and glyph that Divine Protection. We’ve got an elemental lord to cast down.
