Gold Capped: Four gold making addons for beginners

Every week, WoW Insider brings you Gold Capped, in which Fox Van Allen and Basil “Euripides” Berntsen aim to show you how to make money on the auction house. Feed Fox’s ego by emailing him or tweeting him at @foxvanallen.
The more information you have at your fingertips, the easier it will be to make money. It’s a simple truth, and it explains a lot of why newbies to the Auction House game struggle so much. The heavyweights have the information, and you don’t.
Part of the problem is the standard Blizzard UI. The money making game would be so much easier if Blizzard simply gave players more information — information that’s readily available elsewhere. “How many stacks of this are listed at this price?” “What will this piece of armor disenchant into?” “Where the hell do I go to find Whiptail?”
Those who have more experience than you will always have an inherent advantage. But it’s an advantage that even the newest of players can mitigate through the use of addons. Today, I’m going to talk about four simple gold making addons for beginners that do some really powerful things to put newer players on a slightly more equal playing field.

The Queue: Three of the Four Winds

Welcome back to The Queue, the daily Q&A column in which the WoW Insider team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Mike Sacco will be your host today.
Do you guys have any characters you’ve named specifically to set up puns with your titles? I didn’t intend it for Most (whose old name was Mostaccioli), but the name works pretty well with almost all “
Daedalus asked:
Okay, probably WAY too early to start (or more likely, continue) this, but….
We’re 6 months out from Blizzcon, and they’re almost sure to be announcing a new expansion this year, so do you WoWInsiders have any predictions/theories/WAG’s, etc?
Boy, do I!

Shifting Perspectives: Balance in Throne of the Four Winds

Every week, WoW Insider brings you Shifting Perspectives for cat , bear , restoration and balance druids. This week, we’ll fight a giant blob of wind … or air … or something like that. It’ll be totally awesome guys — I promise!
Greetings once again, my druidic companions! In the previous weeks, we valiantly struggled once again to end the life of two of Deathwing’s children. It wasn’t an easy victory, to be sure. This week, we put ourselves against a new foe: the elemental lord of air Al’Akir. The elemental lords have always been quite chaotic in nature, once serving as a part of the Old Gods’ armies when they ruled Azeroth. It comes as no surprise, then, that the wind king (much like the fire lord) has thrown his lot in with Deathwing.
On a side note, I think this creates the perfect opportunity to bring up why this proves that druids are vastly superior to shaman. Sure, both groups may harbor some control over the natural forces of the world, but the shaman rely upon the elements in order to perfect their art. These elements are quite fickle. Oh sure, they can beg and plead to have the elements bless them, but what do they do when the elements say “no”? Druids don’t have this weakness. We control nature itself; we are the rightful caretakers of this world. Personally, I say the next war should be between the Cenarion Circle and the Earthen Ring. We’ve pretty much fought against all of the elemental lords in one form or another; I think it’s high time we targeted the root of the problem. I’m just sayin’.

Blood Pact: Storming Throne of Four Winds as a warlock

Every week (when the regular warlock writer hasn’t been eaten by a prince of hell or something, that is), WoW Insider brings you Blood Pact for affliction, demonology and destruction warlocks. For those who disdain the watered-down arts that other cling to like a safety blanket, for those willing to test their wills against the nether and claim the power that is their right, Blood Pact welcomes you and invites you to take a seat.
Welcome back, darklings. I hope the previous week has treated you all well, or at least that you didn’t sustain too many injuries in your attempts to wrangle down a new demonic slave. Those things can be so tricky at times. Why I remember once when … oh, I’m rambling again, aren’t I?
Anyway, now that we have raided yet another dragon’s lair — and it did seem familiar, for some strange reason — it is time that we commit ourselves to a true test of our magical prowess. Dragons are all well and good, but taking down an elemental lord? That takes finesse. Throne of the Four Winds is another of the three raid instances availible on the first tier of raiding in Cataclysm. In it, you find yourself face to face with Al’Akir and three of his strongest servants. Fortunately, none of them have any minions of their own, which is why this must be my favorite instance of all time. That’s right, there is absolutely no trash here — just two bosses waiting to be slain.
So let’s start up that felfire.

Ready Check: WoW Insider’s Guide to Throne of Four Winds

The Throne of Four Winds is a bite-sized raid with only two real fights. Despite its low number of bosses, the Throne of Four Winds can be very challenging to raid groups. This is because the mechanics of each fight require a lot of coordination and precise maneuvering.
In the first encounter, the Conclave of Wind, you must split your raid into three parts. There are three bosses on three different platforms. Your team must be able to move across the platforms in a coordinated way and react to what the bosses are doing. Movement of this kind can be very disorienting for a raid, so folks who aren’t comfortable with the dance steps could have some trouble.
The second encounter is against Al’Akir. It’s a three-phase fight and ends in three-dimensional space. Interestingly, Al’Akir combines the “fire wall” mechanic from Sartharion as well as the “fly around” mechanic from Malygos. Again, if you had trouble with those fights, you’ll probably be challenged here also. That being said, Al’Akir is a pretty fun and engaging encounter.

Phat Loot Phriday: Shield of Four Grey Towers

“This is totally not a Crest of Retribution,” Throgg explained, hefting the new shield above his head. “That was a fine shield, a mainstay of the paladin and warrior orders. Those brave men would slap a shield spike on the Crest and use it to farm dozens of enemies at once.”
The classroom of young tanks sighed appreciatively. Lolegolas smiled in pride, basking in the idea of Throgg as a teacher.
“No, this is not that crest,” Throgg continued. “This is the Shield of Four Grey Towers. You can purchase it from a vendor after proving your worth in dungeons. It is one of the finest shields, short of Elementium Earthguard. And considering the truly insane prices those run, it’s a good option.”
“It’s shiny, too,” Lolegolas said. “It’s quite the butch-looking shield.”
- Type Shield
- Armor 11,696
- Strength 168
- Stamina 252
