Children have never had it so good
BBC News When I watch my older son playing World of Warcraft, and discussing with kids in Denmark and the US their various strategies about what they are going to do, I think it is a wonderful, wonderful thing. So all this leads me to conclude that childhood in … |
The Daily Quest: Good for me
WoW-related links from around the blogosphere.
So have you tried out the Raid Finder? Or maybe just the raid itself? Did you get any good stuff? Or heck, have you found your perfect transmogrification set yet? Patch 4.3 has been nothing but a ball of fun so far as far as I’m concerned, and everyone else seems to be having a good time too — but that doesn’t mean there’s nothing to talk about, of course. Check out these posts from around the blogosphere for some frank 4.3 discussion.
- Orcish Army Knife points out that transmogging heirlooms isn’t really that big of a deal.
- Tree Heals Go Woosh is uncertain how to feel about the new Raid Finder feature.
- Cynwise’s Battlefield Manual goes over the new Arena season, PvP gear and epic gems.

Good Lord, World of Warcraft Is Old
Kotaku In an industry where games barely even a month old are slashed in price then swiftly forgotten, World of Warcraft is an exceptional, well, exception. The game, which turned seven yesterday, was first announced back in 2001. … |
Breakfast Topic: What’s your idea of good random in-game fun?
This Breakfast Topic has been brought to you by Seed, the AOL guest writer program that brings your words to WoW Insider’s pages.
Imagine you are an elemental shaman. You notice that Arathi Basin is on Call to Arms and decide to queue up. You’ve got a bit of a crazy streak in you, so you decide to head up to the Lumber Mill. You’re new to the path of the shaman and are still experimenting with your abilities. The battle is getting pretty overwhelming, and you know you don’t have a lot of health. You really don’t want that warrior getting too close. You decide to throw out a Thunderbolt in an attempt keep some distance and watch in awe as the warrior’s frustrated body sails beautifully through the air and off the cliff to meet his certain demise below.
That was awesome!
You’ve just found your purpose in WoW. After the BG, you relate your experience to your friends. Before you know it, you’ve got a group of elemental shaman and boomkins queuing up for Arathi Basin and Eye of the Storm with no other purpose in mind than to knock as many people to their deaths as possible. Unfortunately for the rest of your frustrated team, you don’t care about winning or losing; you are having the time of your life.
While it certainly is fun to have the best gear, down the toughest raid bosses, or reach that next Arena rating, sometimes we all need to step back from the seriousness and remind ourselves that we are playing a game. Sometimes we need to take a break from the emblem grinding and talent tweaking and just do something that makes us laugh until our sides ache.
Whether it’s forming a knockback brigade, repeatedly jumping off high cliffs, or dueling while under the influence of in-game alcohol, tell us what you do when you just want to have a good time.

The Daily Quest: Let’s talk about the good old days
If you’ve never seen Illegal Danish before, man, you are missing out. It was one of the first machinima I ever watched, and it’s still just as funny years later. Speaking of things from years ago, Blog Azeroth had a shared topic suggested by Mia over at the Chronicles of Mia that posed a good question: If you could bring back any feature of WoW from days gone by, what would that be? Here are a few bloggers with some answers to the question.
- Harpy’s Nest has a few suggestions from the good old days, including same-server AV matches.
- Jaded Alt thinks first aid and bandages have fallen into disuse and wishes they’d be more useful.
- Anuillae’s Analytical Assertions confesses a longing for days of old and portals to anywhere.
- The Daily Frostwolf thinks life would be nicer with fewer flight paths, among other things.

WoW Rookie: How to pick a good name when all the good ones are taken

New around here? WoW Rookie points WoW’s newest players to the resources they need to get acclimated.
Especially on old servers, it can feel like all the good names are already claimed. Creating a new character with a strong, iconic name is one heck of a challenge, especially if you want to avoid joke and parody names like McDoomChicken. You can give up your dreams of finding real-world names like Stephen or Michael; the only way you’ll grab a straightforward name is to grab it on a brand new server (and we’re fairly unlikely to see a brand new server any time soon).
With Mists of Pandaria careening toward us with all the excitement of a monk rolling along in a fuzzy ball, now’s the time to get your unique snowflake name reserved. Rest assured that every variation of Jack Black you can create has already been taken. Let’s talk about how you can create a unique, interesting name without resorting to all the special font characters WoW will allow.

The Daily Quest: Looking good
I can’t really decide what my favorite thing from the patch 4.3 PTR is. I don’t know if it’s the fact that I can customize my gear to look pretty cool … or the new dungeons that are relatively quick, challenging and filled with plenty of worthwhile loot … or the fact that I’ve suddenly got 80 slots free in my bank. I can’t wait to see what the Dragon Soul raid has to offer, but right now, the next patch is looking really, really good.
Today we’ve got some posts from around the blogosphere regarding the PTR and patch 4.3.
- Mania’s Arcania found a new hunter pet with two unique looks over on the 4.3 PTR.
- Cynwise’s Battlefield Manual has a guide on prepping for patch 4.3 and Season 11 PVP gear.
- Apple Cider Mage goes over some of the many changes on the PTR servers.

The Daily Quest: Good idea, bad idea
Man, I miss Animaniacs. Actually, all of the Warner Bros. cartoons from that time period were great. They were smart, and they were funny. I remember many fond moments when my mother would crack up while watching the show with us, not explaining whatever was so funny and telling us we would “get it when we were older.” It’s amazing how much stuff they managed to slip in there for the grown-ups.
Today we’ve got a collection of posts from around the blogosphere highlighting good ideas for new players, good ideas for experienced players, and some good old-fashioned critical thinking.
- Life in Group 5 has a wonderful post with things to keep in mind for new or experienced resto shaman — and everyone else in between, too!
- Mana Obscura shares some thoughts in defense of keeping the tank/healer/DPS trifecta alive.
- Restokin spotlights a good idea for those with cluttered bags and banks — the Adibags addon.
- Orcish Army Knife has come up with a fun idea for bored guildies or friends: The Naked Dungeon Challenge!
