The Queue: Clearly, the correct answer is Tommy, the green Ranger

Welcome back to The Queue, the daily Q&A column in which the WoW Insider team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Adam Holisky (@adamholisky) will be your host today.
Andy provided the correct answer for yesterday’s Queue. And let me tell you, he’s right.
Except the Pink Ranger. I had such a crush on her …
Shrinknet asked:
What level does my fishing need to be in order to catch Cata-level fish, and can I reach it with bonus items?

The Queue: What am I going to do with all these Green Proto-Drakes?

Welcome back to The Queue, the daily Q&A column in which the WoW Insider team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Mathew McCurley will be your host today.
I am practically swimming in Green Proto-Drakes. I don’t even know what to do with them any more! Satchel of Exotic Mysteries, please give me mounts that I don’t already have. Worthless bags.
Tfish92 asked:
How is it fair that a hunter could switch from a gun to a bow because they like the way the bow looks but want the guns racial bonus but any other class that has a weapon type bonus can’t do the same? What if I want to keep my 2h sword for the bonus but I want to use an axe?
It’s the same concept and I don’t think one type should be the exception.
I see that you do not play a hunter. That statement is not meant to be mean or belittling in any way, but as the commenters have made note of, it is not about the look of the weapon per se but the sound each makes. Guns in WoW have a very audible sound that cannot be turned off without lowering the sound effects volume (which lowers all sound effects) or using an addon to suppress the gun firing noise. Guns are loud; bows are not. Each time you use an ability — boom. Each Auto-Shot — boom. It gets annoying quickly. That is why guns to bows and bows to guns is the exception to the rule.

Patch 4.2 PTR: Uncut green gems vendor price reduced

Blizzard has already reduced the vendor price for cut green gems (presumably to reduce jewelcrafters’ propensity for vendoring the majority of every prospected stack of ore). While they left the uncut gems at 5g, it became much more profitable to shuffle all possible colors of gems into enchanting mats and blue jewlery.
Well, the latest testing from the patch 4.2 PTR has reduced the price of uncut gems, too. On the live realms, they vendor for 100g a stack, leaving a decent vendor floor price for ore. Once this change goes live, they will be worth 50s each or 10g a stack. This should indeed have the desired effect of causing fewer of these to end up vendored for inflationary vendor money, with the potentially undesirable effect of making mining less profitable.
Assuming you’re transmuting, disenchanting, or otherwise making good use of 5 of the 6 colors of uncommon gems, this will likely not change your life much. You will make 10g instead of 100g when you vendor a stack of the borderline useless Zephyrite, but most of your money will be coming from the other activities. Also, you can still occasionally sell these to other jewelcrafters for their daily.
Bottom line, though, is that the new “floor” price of Elementium Ore and Obsidium Ore is basically gone now. There are no more guaranteed sales, and if you flood a market (like enchanting mats) by processing thousands of stacks of ore, you can’t count on any vendor based fallback to at least get you your money back.
The news is already rolling out for the upcoming WoW Patch 4.2! Preview the new Firelands raid, marvel at the new legendary staff, and get the inside scoop on new quest hubs — plus new Tier 12 armor!

Around Azeroth: Tomorrow the green grass
Arugadh of The Seekers of Truth on Farstriders (US-A) writes, “Cataclysm has been constantly amazing me with the sheer gorgeousness and detail of the graphics, even in areas that are only for one short, low level, or a couple short quests, or only in passing. This is from the Lost Isles, where the gobs flee to after their home is destroyed. I was so caught by the sheer distance and the beauty of the volcano shot that I just stood there for a good five minutes, admiring. Shortly after this, you’re fleeing in a mine cart at a breakneck pace across molten-hot glowing red rock — again, GORGEOUSLY done, but I couldn’t get back to those areas to get the screens, and you go by too fast to get decent screens at the time. Darn.”

The Daily Quest: All I see are green bars

Sometimes I miss Molten Core. Not the silly let’s run in and solo it Molten Core that we see today — the old monstrosity that required 40 people. At least 20 of them needed to be competent at their class. And at least seven people had to have done the quest chain out in the middle of nowhere in Azshara for the Aqual Quintessence, or you wouldn’t be able to get to Ragnaros. And you needed at least four warlocks for Garr‘s adds. And getting attuned required visiting an instance that … you know, the more I think about it, the more I am reconsidering my position. But let’s see what others have to say about raiding, shall we?
- Target Dummies gives us a few words on being a part-time progression raider.
- Totem Forest talks about combating healer tunnel vision in regards to raid frames.
- Bible of Dreams fills us in on what it takes to be a great raid leader.
