Shifting Perspectives: Balance druid guide to Dragon Soul, part 2

Every week, WoW Insider brings you Shifting Perspectives for cat , bear , restoration and balance druids. Balance news comes at you every Friday — learn how to master the forces of nature, and know what it means to be a giant laser turkey! Send questions, comments, or requests to tyler@wowinsider.com or @murmursofadruid.

And we’re back once more! In our last edition, we went into some of the tricks that you can use in order to boost your DPS in the first four encounters of Dragon Soul. This time around, we’ll be rounding out the rest of the encounters from the instance. Overall, the second half is a bit more challenging than the first half, both in terms of DPS requirements and raid coordination. This is where you’re going to have to push yourself the most, so be prepared to pull out all the stops.

Ultraxion

  • You’ll need two tanks for Ultraxion, which will taunt off each other as they get Fading Light.
  • There have to be three players who stay out for every Hour of Twilight. These players will have to use heavy damage reduction cooldowns or immunities, or they will die.
  • There are three different crystals that spawn for healers, each that have their own unique buffs to help the raid survive. Let them fight over who gets what.

Gold Capped: A tailoring leveling guide

Every week, WoW Insider brings you Gold Capped, in which Fox Van Allen and Basil “Euripides” Berntsen aim to show you how to make money on the Auction House. Feed Fox’s ego by emailing him, tweeting him at @foxvanallen, or sacrificing your first-born to him. And be sure to catch the return of Basil and Fox’s podcast, Call to Auction!

Here at WoW Insider, we’ve been on a beginners’ class guide kick. But after taking the time to put together my shadow priest leveling guide (and after reading the warlock leveling guide written by my less talented coworker), I realized that we didn’t have any kind of leveling guides for professions. Time to fix that! After all, you need professions to make money.

But first, the most important question: What professions should your character choose? The best answer is always going to be “whatever appeals to you most” — but if you’re a magic-using, cloth-wearing class, I’d recommend you at least take a look at tailoring. By leveling it, you get access to Lightweave Embroidery, one of the best level 85 buffs in the game for casters.

Of course, you can level tailoring on any character, and a lot of the craftables you make can be sold at a profit. But if that character can’t use the buffs from the profession, you’re missing one the key benefits to max leveling a profession.

The one item that has consistently sold well throughout World of Warcraft history are bags. Everyone needs them. But not all bags sell. The only bags that sell to any reliable extent are those that contain a minimum of 16 slots.

Shifting Perspectives: Balance druid guide to Dragon Soul, part 1

Every week, WoW Insider brings you Shifting Perspectives for cat , bear , restoration and balance druids. Overall, the first four bosses of Dragon Soul are a fun lot that focus more on your ability to raid overall and less on your specific capabilities. There is a solid chunk of movement in them, so you should be prepare to deal with that. Practicing how to drop Mushrooms while on the move is a huge asset in this raiding tier. Styling this week’s advice after McCurley’s 5-second strats, I’ll briefly detail the encounter and any tricks that you should know about heading into the game. Keep it simple, after all.

Morchok

  • Morchok should be tanked relatively where he stands. After each Blood phase, the tank can just pick him up where ever he happens to end up. No real positioning is needed unless you start to wander too far to the sides.
  • The raid team should all be grouped up within 25 yards of the boss as often as possible.
  • A dedicated group of ranged DPS should run out to every crystal that spawns. You need seven players for this in 25-man.
  • Run and head behind spikes once they’ve spawned, positioning yourself either between two spikes or just at the side of one so that you can continue to DPS.

Lichborne: A guide to leveling your death knight in the Cataclysm era

Every week, WoW Insider brings you Lichborne for blood, frost, and unholy death knights. In the post-Cataclysm era, death knights are no longer the new kids on the block. Let’s show the other classes how a hero class gets things done.

So the news that pandarens can’t be death knights in the new expansion is a bit of a bummer, but it does mean you can start a new death knight right now without worrying about missing out on a new race choice. If you’ve read my guide to death knight racial abilities, you probably have a good idea of what race to roll, too. With that done, you’ve already taken the first step into a larger world.

Death knights, of course, start at level 55 and have that starting experience, which for the most part is pretty intuitive. You’ll get more talent points as you finish quests, which can be fun in that you get your goodies a lot faster than other classes, but frustrating in that you don’t have as much time to get used to everything. Luckily, we’re here to help.

This guide isn’t about maximizing your DPS at the raiding level or even the dungeon level; it’s about getting you to level 85 as smoothly as possible. With that in mind, let’s look at each talent spec and what they have to offer, starting with my favorite leveling spec, frost.

Frost is a great leveling tree (if there’s a best leveling tree, this is it) because not only does it have On A Pale Horse, which allows you to move between mobs and quest objectives faster, but it has Lichborne for emergency heals and Howling Blast for superior AoE capability.
