It came from the Blog: Join us for a party at the World’s End

Join It came from the Blog and The Insiders this Saturday for a party at the World’s End Tavern in Shattrath. We will have refreshments, do a little dancing and play party games of my devising.

  • When: Saturday, May 28 at noon EDT (9 a.m. PDT, 10 a.m. server time)
  • Where: The World’s End Tavern in Shattrath City on Zangarmarsh (US-PVE-H)
  • Who: Any Horde character, though level 10 and above would be easier to transport. Alliance may dance with us, too, but will be unable to participate in the party games.
  • How: Ask any It came from the Blog member for an invite.

Unlike most of our events, transportation will be provided for all those unable to get there on their own power. As with most of our events, I will be streaming the festivities.

So bring your best outfit plus a variety of food and drink, and maybe we can even get an achievement or two. Hope to see you there!

Please join us on Zangarmarsh (US-PVE-H) in It came from the Blog. Any member can invite, so /whisper Roblinator or any online member. You are all welcome as long as you play by our simple rules — basically, don’t be a funsucker! Visit the guild FAQ for more details.

All the World’s a Stage: 4 stories for starting an adventuring party

We’ve all been there in that awkward moment when a group of players starts a new group of characters together. Everyone rolls his favorite race and class, and the party leader invites everyone to chat. You meet up in Elwynn Forest or Durotar, filled to the very brim with the nascent possibilities for future roleplay.

And then you stand there. And stand there. And time passes until someone finally asks, “So, uh, how do we all meet?”

The adventuring party archetype is as old as roleplay itself. Even the Fellowship of the Ring was little more than a tricked out D&D group where the lucky halfling got to carry a legendary artifact. (And no doubt the whole crew was bitter that they lacked a sufficient healer.)

But to get a good group like this rolling, it really helps to have a good joint story from the very start. So let’s talk about my five favorite archetypes for getting an adventuring party started.

Server Maintenance Party: Battle for Eastern Plaguelands live stream

Welcome to the Server Maintenance Party: Battle for Eastern Plaguelands! We are done with the gathering, let the PvP begin! Or at least the running around and standing in towers — we’ll at least get that done. Will the Alliance show up and attack? I don’t know!

Join us in game (here are the details) or watch the stream on our Justin.tv channel. I’m narrating as usual. Whether this turns out to be an enormous battle or a funky dance party, it’s going to be fun.

For the Horde!

Please join us on Zangarmarsh (US-PvE-H) in <It came from the Blog>. Guild ranks of “Blog Lurker” or above can invite, so /whisper Robiness or any online member. You are all welcome as long as you play by our simple rules — basically, don’t be a funsucker! Visit the guild FAQ for more details.

  • Where: Meet at Light’s Hope Chapel on Zangarmarsh (US-PvE-H)
  • How: Ask Robinella or any <It came from the Blog> guild member for an invite to the guild. Ranks of Blog Lurker or above can invite.

Server Maintenance Party: Battle for Eastern Plaguelands

More realms are undergoing 24-hour maintenance starting just after midnight tonight PDT, and therefore it is time for another server maintenance party. You voted for a PvP theme, so we will be defending the Eastern Plaguelands. I will also be streaming the event on our Justin.tv channel so that those who cannot participate can still watch. Here are the details:

  • When: Tuesday, Aug 17, 10:30 p.m. EDT (7:30 p.m. PDT, 8:30 p.m. realm time) to meet and greet. 11 p.m. EDT for the actual event and stream.
  • Where: Meet at Light’s Hope Chapel on Zangarmarsh (US-PvE-H)
  • How: Ask Robinella or any <It came from the Blog> guild member for an invite to the guild. Ranks of Blog Lurker or above can invite.
  • What: We will be attempting to complete Bolstering Our Defenses, following a plan to be discussed in guild chat at the time of the event (in case Alliance spies are reading this).
  • Who: Any level Horde character is invited to participate, but you will have more fun at level 58 or higher.

While any level who makes the trek to join us is welcome, I highly recommend making a death knight to participate if you don’t have a high-level character already on Zangarmarsh. This is a PvP event, so there will be some Alliance resistance — and that will be part of the fun. But even if we have awesomely diligent healers, they will not be able to save low-levels from being one-shot. The event starts late enough in the evening tomorrow so that most people will have enough time to make a DK.

More tips and rules are after the break.

For Gnomeregan!: Refugee Party live stream

For Gnomeregan! is where the members of <B.L.O.G.> on Shadow Council (US-RP-A) roleplay guild meetings as part of an in-blog and in-game RP campaign. The rules for this campaign are: no ERP (Erotic RolePlay) and no vampires (though death knights are welcome). Everyone is invited to participate. Assume that to get into the guild, you at least pretended to be in full use of your faculties and are willing to fight for the cause. You are all welcome to join us here in the comments and those who wish to play with us in-game should friend Peenk and ask for an invite on Shadow Council (US-RP-A).

Hello! Peenk Sparklebolt here. In order to efficiently lead tonight’s Refugee Party, the Operation Gnomeregan engineers have provided me with this gadget thingee. I’m not sure how it works, but it seems that people outside of our guild can actually hear me and see what we are doing tonight. Fascinating. I will be dismantling it to see how it works after this shindig is over.

Anyway, you can hear and see what is happening on my gadget thingee right now, or you can join us at the Refugee Party in Coldridge Pass. But hurry! We’re starting immediately.

(( Watch the stream above or at WoW.com’s Justin.tv channel. If you wish to join us on Shadow Council (US-RP-A) for tonight’s RP event, please read the details and rules for the Refugee Party. ))

It came from the Blog: Server Maintenance Party snapshots

Previous to last Tuesday night, the most people showing up for an <It came from the Blog> event was about 250 (estimated), and usually no more than 100 showed up. I have no idea how many people showed up to the Server Maintenance Party, but it was in the hundreds. Multiple hundreds. Lots and lots of people showed up to steal the Alliance fires. Soooo many. You raid leaders think it’s hard to herd 25 cats? Try several hundred. I’m still a bit in shock.

Also, as you can see/hear above, I streamed the event. I like Ustream for streaming, but there is an audio delay in my ear that is a bit bothersome. This is why it sounds like I’m having a stroke at the beginning. I’m not. I just hadn’t gotten into the swing of ignoring the delay yet. My brain is fine. Mostly. It also only recorded the first 20 minutes. Boo!

Some event highlights and a gallery are after the break.
