Patch 4.3: Void Storage prices revealed

The costs associated with Void Storage have been purely placeholders so far on the patch 4.3 PTR, but the prices were set high enough that they still spooked many players. We’ve all been cautiously awaiting the reveal of the true costs of the system. Tonight, community manager Lylirra came through for us. For the moment, prices have been set as:

  • 100g to unlock Void Storage
  • 25g to deposit an item
  • Withdrawal is free

Lylirra warns that these numbers could still change before patch 4.3 goes live. As I mentioned on the latest WoW Insider Show, whether or not I personally used the Void Storage feature depended entirely on what the pricing structure would look like. If it cost too much, I wouldn’t use it at all. These prices seem quite reasonable, however.

Read Lylirra’s full explanation of the Void Storage pricing on the official forums or behind the cut below.

Patch 4.1: Lowered gem vendor prices spells end of Obsidium Shuffle

The latest patch on the PTR has some dire news for miners. MMO-Champion posted that the vendor price for a cut green quality Cataclysm gem has been reduced from 9g to 75s. It’s not yet in the patch notes and I can’t log into the PTR to grab a screenshot, but it’s in the data files and will likely go live with patch 4.1.

Why is this change dire news for miners? Right now, the price for all Cataclysm ores is largely based on the fact that no matter what, you can vendor cut green gems for 9g. For example, Obsidium Ore has a price floor based on green gems only of 54g. Anyone who can prospect Obsidium can safely spend all their money on any amount of ore below that cost, and they will get a no-risk return on this “shuffle.” Add in the fact that a lot of green quality gems can be made into items that value those gems at considerably more than 9g each, and you have a very profitable and risk free way to make money.

Patch 4.0.6 PTR: Sell prices for common archaeology artifacts changed (again)

After the hoopla that went on over a 1,000g sell price on the Word of Empress Zoe, Blizzard has changed the sell values on all of the common archaeology artifacts again on the PTR. Word of Empress Zoe’s sell price to vendors has gone down significantly, but to compensate, many other commons have had their prices increased to even out the spread of money-makers in the profession. Thanks to Wowhead for the comprehensive list. You can check out the full table of common sell prices after the jump.

Patch 4.0.6 PTR: Justice point trade goods prices

Patch 4.0.6 will bring a new vendor that sells raw materials and resources in exchange for justice points. Many players, now capped on justice points, have been struggling with ways to spend them. Blizzard has added in these vendors as a kind of point dump for some extra resources without letting those points waste away into nothingness in your currency tab. Here is a current list of the resources sold and their justice point cost:

Now, if you think these prices are high, remember that these items are not meant to be bought efficiently with justice points. Rather, leftover justice points are supposed to be converting into a little extra in the materials department for you. So far I think it’s a pretty good price list, but I’d love to see Maelstrom Crystals on there for 4,000 points each, which would make some of the upper end enchants easier.

Gold Capped: When glyph prices hit the wall

Every week, Gold Capped brings you tips on how to make money on the auction house. This article from inscription specialist Steve Zamboni has been brought to you by Seed, the Aol guest writer program that brings your words to WoW.com.

Imagine a typical glyph market on a busy realm: dozens of goblins sitting hunched over their steam calculators surrounding the trading pit, each figuring their costs and profits down to the last copper trying to gain an advantage over the others. Thousands of glyphs are posted every hour, most to be canceled and reposted an hour later at even lower prices. Eventually, one of the goblins has a flash of brilliance (or cracks under the strain; the records aren’t clear) and posts all of his glyphs at a loss. The calculation engines grind to a stop, leaving the goblins to stare up at the big board in silence, then at each other. “Now what?”

We call it the wall. One scribe picks a price and tries to hold the entire market to that price. If it holds, the market stops at the wall, and everyone on the other side watches helplessly as sales drop to zero. Sometimes it’s done to drive off competitors; sometimes it’s done to dissuade new competitors from entering the market, or just to burn up excess ink supplies … or even just out of boredom to cause pointless drama, goblin style.

Like all good goblin inventions, the wall appears simple on the outside, but remains complicated (and somewhat explosive) when put into practice. One complication is that there is more actually more than one type of wall.
