Josh Myers once only tackled the hard questions about enhancement but has recently expanded his sphere of responsibility to all shaman DPS specs. (And no, two-handed enhancement is still never coming back.)

It’s official. Arena Season 10 is ending in two weeks, and with it ends the reign of Ragnaros. We raiders will be moving on to bigger and better things, hopefully with a better color palette than endless red and orange. Deathwing’s end and the saving of Azeroth as we know it awaits us … but really, more importantly, so does the chance at more epic lootz. I know rationally that this loot will all be replaced within the first zone of Pandaria, but for the time being, I’m eagerly awaiting the last tier of gear of this expansion. Loot is cool, and Dragon Soul has some of the best gear we’ve seen this expansion.

Trinkets are really some of the most fun items in the game. I hate how aggravating they are to get; I just got Necromantic Focus last night, and I still have nightmares from The Burning Crusade when I ran heroic Magister’s Terrace 34 days in a row to try and get a Shard of Contempt. Dragon Soul has some excellent trinkets, and almost all of them look appealing to elemental.

Man, the last few weeks sure have been fun and full of interesting information regarding our future. Speculation has already begun as to how we’re going to be doing when the next expansion is poised for release, and we leave this world of Cataclysm behind us. Let’s take the time to bring the focus back to current-day concerns and the most important thing of all, questions from you the readers. Restoration shaman have been a class in flux throughout Cataclysm, and as a result, there are numerous questions from those who are pushing raid content all the way to those who are returning to the game after a hiatus. What is the best healing spell for Death knights?? I’ve been struggling just to keep a blood dk and its just getting on my nerves even though they are great tanks i just don’t know if its me or is it the spell I’m casting wrong? I usually keep my riptide and earth shield up as long as doing chain heals and throwing healing rain when ever it gets messy.

It has been a very exciting weekend for every World of Warcraft fan. BlizzCon is that one yearly event where news unlike anything else we’ve heard all year comes out. We were treated not only to the announcement of the next expansion, Mists of Pandaria, but a plethora of changes for every class and spec.

The big news outside of the expansion was the announcement of the new talent system. In patch 5.0, a new talent system will come along and replace the one we have grown to know right now. It came as a bit of a shock, especially after we were bumped down to the 31-talent point system we have now. The system has a lot of exciting things that will have an impact on our healing; probably most important is that talents will no longer be a key factor in determining a character’s power.

Josh Myers once only tackled the hard questions about enhancement but has recently expanded his sphere of responsibility to all shaman DPS specs. (And no, two-handed enhancement is still never coming back.)

It’s crazy for me to think that it’s been nearly four weeks since the first patch notes detailing class changes went up on the PTR. Three Saturdays back, I devoted the first post to tier 13 so as to benefit both specs of DPS shaman. Two weeks ago, it was enhancement changes. And, in my most recent post, elemental changes got pushed to the back burner after the elemental tier 12 set bonus got nerfed hard on the PTR.

So, nearly a calendar month after PTR notes first went up, it’s high time to discuss some of the awesome (and not-so-awesome) changes in store for elemental shaman in patch 4.3.

(And no, two-handed enhancement is still never coming back.)

I won’t lie: The past few months have left me fairly disillusioned about playing an enhancement shaman. Nothing in Cataclysm will ever match the absolute horror that was the last patch of Wrath of the Lich King for enhancement. However, our total lack of scaling with secondary stats that aren’t mastery, horrific AOE DPS every patch, and our total lack of any form of worthwhile DPS cooldown have all been ingredients in the lukewarm dish that is enhancement. If this was Iron Chef: America, even Alton Brown would be hard pressed to make us sound good.

Thankfully, the 4.3 PTR is up, and with it comes some changes to enhancement shaman that have me excited.

Patch 4.3 PTR Video: New spell effects for shaman, warlocks, druids

Lightning Bolt, Shadow Bolt, and Wrath, three staple spells for the shaman, warlock, and druid classes respectively, all have new animations on the Public Test Realm. You can check out the new spell animations in the video above. Lighting Bolt’s effect now leaves a blue trail and has more oomph than just the small blue ball that was fired from the shaman beforehand. Shadow Bolt’s skull-headed projectile now leaves a greenish wake. Wrath looks completely different, eschewing the green lightning bolt effect for a more nature-based zap.

[Edit]: Video was re-shot for some better angles/views of the spells. Sorry about that, guys and gals.

Brace yourselves for what could be some of most exciting updates to the game recently with patch 4.3. Review the official patch notes, and then dig into what’s ahead: new item storage options, cross-realm raiding, cosmetic armor skinning and your chance to battle the mighty Deathwing — from astride his back!

If you haven’t been living under a rock for the past week, you’re probably aware that tier 13 bonuses have been revealed. You might have read about them here on Wow Insider. You might have heard your friendly neighborhood boomkin bemoaning his bonuses on Twitter. You might even have caught guild members accusing each other of being overpowered months before 4.3 hits live servers. At any rate, regardless of how you heard about them, tier bonuses are here, and tier 13 offers some interesting bonuses for both specs of DPS shaman.

  • Elemental, 2P — Elemental Mastery also grants you 400 mastery rating 15 sec.
  • Elemental, 4P — Each time Elemental Overload triggers, you gain 200 haste rating for 4 sec, stacking up to 3 times.
  • Enhancement, 2P — While you have any stacks of Maelstrom Weapon, your Lightning Bolt, Chain Lightning, and healing spells deal 20% more healing or damage.
  • Enhancement, 4P — Your Feral Spirits have a 45% chance to grant you a charge of Maelstrom Weapon each time they deal damage.
