WoW Moviewatch: Dragonwrath: Arcane Shot is a Spell, Right?

Swathe Productions is a mother-and-son team we’ve featured before now. They create machinima as a way of spending quality time together while expanding their creativity. It’s a pretty awesome family endeavor, and I’m always excited to see what they do next.

In Dragonwrath: Arcane Shot is a Spell, Right?, they tackle the inevitable drama surrounding new legendaries. An impartial council gets together to sort out who will earn the new legendary by interviewing a series of applicants. And, of course, hijinks ensue.

I really liked this video, and I’m impressed by how Swathe’s skills are constantly improving. This was a fun machinima to watch and is a good addition to the team’s portfolio. I obviously hope they continue creating.

Interested in the wide world of machinima? We have new movies every weekday here on WoW Moviewatch! Have suggestions for machinima we ought to feature? Toss us an email at moviewatch@wowinsider.com.

Breakfast Topic: The kill shot and other boss downing traditions

This Breakfast Topic has been brought to you by Seed, the Aol guest writer program that brings your words to WoW Insider’s pages.

So, you and your guildies have been waiting for this moment for months. You’ve leveled up together and run heroics until the sound of Ozruk’s voice was haunting your every dream. You took all that fancy blue gear, watched some videos and made a couple nights of attempts. Now you stand at the body of some freshly killed behemoth wondering exactly what the hell a worm was doing with a fancy pair of pants (It’s because he’s jealous of your legs — classic Little Mermaid syndrome.) Congratulations!

Once all the purple pieces have been passed out, though, it’s time to memorialize the occasion. Guilds have long participated in the time-honored tradition of posing for screenshots after they down raid bosses for the first time. If you need further proof of this phenomena, simply do a Google image search of any current tier raid boss, and you’ll be assaulted with pictures of avatars, standing together proudly.

Something else you notice about these pictures, though, is that they can be — let’s face it — kind of boring. Personally, I’ve seen enough boss kill screenshots to last a lifetime, so when my guild succeeds in killing something new, I don’t even take one. Instead, my wife mocks up a Photoshop like the one above to commemorate each victory. It’s silly, but it gives us something to look forward to as we progress.

Does your guild take screenshots of first kills, or do you document the occasion in some other way? Perhaps you write an exciting RP blog entry recounting your band of heroes’ legendary triumph? If you do take the tried-and-true screencap, what does your character do to shake things up? Extra points if you always pop a sandbox tiger and ride it in furbolg form!

Ready Check: Give your progression a shot in the arm

Ready Check helps you prepare yourself and your raid for the bosses that simply require killing. Check back with Ready Check each week for the latest pointers on killing adds, not standing in fire, and hoping for loot that won’t drop.

Progression can be a challenge. Your team seems to be trying hard, you have enough people to raid on the appropriate nights, and it even seems like everyone has read up on the fights. However, when it comes “go time,” you still don’t seem to be moving forward.

The first step in resolving this problem is obviously to try and diagnose what’s going wrong. That’s a complicated enough issue for most folks. The bigger issue, though, is what you should do when it’s no one’s fault in particular. Maybe your raid doesn’t have enough healers, or maybe it has too much melee. Maybe you’re missing a vital raid buff, or perhaps not enough people are in advanced enough gear. What do you then? These things are clearly an issue to be resolved, but it’s not a particular person’s fault. You still need to address the problem.

Around Azeroth: Hey man, nice shot

Wow, William Tell’s accuracy really went downhill as he got older. Submitter Orcysama of <Mystic> on Spinebreaker (EU-H) writes, “Dear Human Elizabeth: Orcy powerful warrior in Orgrimmar and smash many heads. But sometimes Orcy feel bored and want to explore. Me fly to Uldum and see if Orcy smash something there. But stupid tiny humans shoot Orcy down from sky and me fall in water. Me look for axe to smash tiny humans and me find two dead humans in water. Orcy take bodies as souvenir for wife.”
