Around Azeroth: Not even close to the coolest Time Lord

“The end of End Time still makes me shed a small tear for Nozzie,” writes Halrandir of Midnight Cartel on Elune (US-A). “I’m fairly certain that for all his ‘the future is muddied and muddled and I can’t see what’s going to happen, it’s all up to the play — I mean, the champions now’ talk, he knows all along exactly what is going to happen to all the Aspects. Heck, he knows the circumstances of his own death, and they happen in a time line that doesn’t exist. At least Cassandra only had her loved ones and her life hurt by her predictions. Nozdormu knows the downfall of the entire world, and now he can’t do all that much to assist in stopping it.”

Shifting Perspectives: Feral fighting in End Time

Every week, WoW Insider brings you Shifting Perspectives for cat, bear, restoration and balance druids. Welcome to our feral cat edition, brought to you by Chase Hasbrouck, aka Alaron of The Fluid Druid blog. Let the face clawing begin!

So there I was, just minding my own business and trying to get the smoke out of my gear (being a flaming kitty is cool and all, but the dry cleaning costs are incredibly expensive), when one of those bronze dragons showed up. She looked human, but I can smell dragon a mile away (which incidentally has not helped much, being as the things seem to be around every corner these days — I thought dragons were rare, mystical creatures?).

“Champion,” she said. “My master, Nozdormu, needs your help urgently. The list of heroes powerful enough to assist him in his time of need are few. Please come at once!”

I glanced at the list. Apparently, “few” means half the population of Azeroth. Still, I was bored.
“So,” I said, wearily. “What needs killing now?”

“He does,” she replied. “We must kill his future self, who is preventing us from going to the past to get the item needed to save the present.”

“Right. Wait, what?” I answered, confusedly. “If he has a future self, than that means we’ve already succeeded, and … fine. Just tell me where to go, before I have to think about it again.”

End Time, the first of the new 5-man instances, is arguably the easiest. In order to get to not-Nozdormu, you’ll have to go through two of four echoes, which are alternate future versions of today’s faction leaders. There’s a bit of trash, but nothing that can’t be AoEed down. As such, we’ll jump right to talking about the echoes, which are more interesting.

Why World of Warcraft Wants Less (or more) Of Your Time

The focus of this article is World of Warcraft. Players who have reached the level cap will tell you that is where the game really begins. World of Warcraft originally capped the player level at 60. After it's 3 expansions, the bar was raised to 85.

Breakfast Topic: Has the time come for Outland story updates?

After Chris Metzen’s seeming joke at BlizzCon concerning the possible reappearance of Illidan in future WoW storylines, it occurred to me that we really haven’t seen much of Outland or its storylines lately. Well, maybe that’s not fair — if you’re leveling a character between 58 and 68, I imagine you’ve seen all too much of Outland and are heartily sick of the whole continent and its dungeons by now. Still, The Burning Crusade featured some great stories, and if Illidan ever does come back, there are a few people I hope he’ll (metaphorically) drag alongside him.

The two that come immediately to mind are the Netherwing Dragonflight and the Ashtongue Deathsworn. What’s up with the Netherwing since Deathwing’s demise? Do they even know about it or what’s happened with the Aspects? And what’s going on with Akama now? I’d argue that he, more than Kael or Vashj or Illidan, was the greatest and most compelling character of WoW‘s first expansion, and he had one hell of a unique model. The brains behind the Ashtongue’s high-stakes Batman Gambit (warning: TV Tropes link) has got to be up to something these days, and if Blizzard ever revamps Outland questing, I hope it gives players a peek.

Then again, that’s assuming that yanking Illidan back from the dead is even a good idea to begin with (is it?) or that Outland stories can be made relevant to their modern counterparts. Thoughts, readers?

WRUP: “Hello from the past” says the time traveler from the future

Every week, just at the start of the weekend, we catch up with the WoW Insider staff and ask them, “What are you playing this week?” — otherwise known as: WRUP. Join us to see what we’re up to in and out of game, and catch us in the comments to let us know what you’re playing, too!

Greetings, humans! I am a time traveler from the near-distant future. Three hours in the future, exactly! I’d give you news and tidings of the future, but I arrived over three hours ago, so all my unique knowledge is already outdated. Sorry about that. Bad planning.

Time travelers such as me have unique needs. We are subject to terrible bouts of time sickness. And, of course, we need gobs of mammoth chunks and delicious powdered horse milk. (100% horse — no ponies!) Thankfully, there’s a store in Los Angeles that caters to these needs, the Echo Park Time Travel Mart. It seriously exists, and it seriously sells stuff like Robot Milk. There are pictures after the break to prove it.

The store is actually a front for 826LA, a nonprofit writing and tutoring center for city kids. So if you’re hungry for horse milk, you can get some while supporting the youth of Los Angeles. Which is a pretty awesome thing. I mean, we need to start nurturing the next Fox Van Allen now. I can’t keep this WRUP thing up forever.

Which reminds me: We should probably get this WRUP rolling. So, everyone, What aRe yoU Playing this week?

Spiritual Guidance: Shadow priesting the End Time heroic

Every week, WoW Insider brings you Spiritual Guidance for discipline, holy and shadow priests. On Wednesdays, shadow priesting expert Fox Van Allen comes from out of the shadows to bask in your loving adoration. He is also scientifically proven more beautiful than boomkin blogger Tyler Caraway.

Recently, I’ve found myself playing World of Warcraft more and more. It’s all because of my new shadow priest I finished leveling on Horde side. Even more specifically, it’s because of the new 5-man heroics in patch 4.3. There’s nothing I like more than fresh content.

The first of the three new 5-man instances is called End Time. It’s got a great concept: You travel forward in time to a post-apocalyptic Dragonblight nightmarescape. In this (soon-to-be) false future, Deathwing was not stopped and the maddened Echos of faction leaders roam a destroyed world. With treasure. As a level 85 shadow priest, it’s your duty to travel to End Time, beat up the baddies, steal their loot, and ignore all the terrible time paradoxes your action undoubtably causes.

There are five different bosses in End Time. Your party will randomly face two of four different Echoes (Baine, Jaina, Sylvanas, Tyrande). After beating the first two bosses, your party will teleport to the Bronze Dragonshrine to face off against the dragon Murozond in what is arguably the most fun 5-man fight of the entire expansion.

Breakfast Topic: What’s your favorite 5-man instance of all time?

Shadowfang Keep

This Breakfast Topic has been brought to you by Seed, the AOL guest writer program that brings your words to WoW Insider’s pages.

The first instance I ever ran was Shadowfang Keep with my brother and his friends. I was led by the nose through it and it’s a good thing, because I couldn’t fight to save my life — I just wanted to look at everything! To this day, it remains the benchmark for me by which all other instances are judged. When it received its update in Cata, part of me was really disappointed. I had always looked forward to running it on fresh alts, and I never wanted it to change. For the most part, I’m OK with the changes, and it still remains my favorite instance. And now I don’t have to make alts to run it.

So what has been your very favorite instance to run? Not raid, mind you — that’s a whole other Breakfast Topic. Just a regular 5-man instance. Do you prefer the old classics, or has something from Cataclysm stolen your heart? None of the Wrath or Cata instances really did it for me, but I really got a kick out of the Caverns of Time instances from The Burning Crusade.

What grabs you when you get to an instance? Is it the setting? The music? The end of a quest line? Or are you primarily concerned with what kind of loot you’re going to get out of the deal?
