Drama Mamas: Vent troubles vs. That Guy

Drama Mamas Lisa Poisso and Robin Torres are experienced gamers and real-life mamas — and just as we don’t want our precious babies to be the ones kicking and wailing on the floor of the checkout lane next to the candy, neither do we want you to become known as That Guy on your realm.

The above video is not on topic. Anyway, let’s talk about That Guy. He’s always causing drama. Or is he?

Dear Robin and Lisa,

I recently found myself in an interesting situation: Running our guild second 10 man raid team. Or more accurately, finishing it off with two tanks, a healer and a DPS. Getting the DPS and the healer was fairly easy without going outside the guild or recruiting anyone. And I even convinced one of our officers to be the MT. This afternoon, at the spur of the moment, he (the MT guild officer) formed a Bastion of Twilight raid with most of the second team members in it, including me (shammy healer), along with a tank friend of his. So, we get there, join vent, mine is working fine (this is important) and we start the first pulls, things are going just fine and we get to the first boss. Halfus has 3 drakes available (twilight, slate and time) so after a short discussion in vent, a strategy is decided on and we attack the boss. Three wipes later, they down the boss, my first ever kill on Halfus. I even get this amulet drop which is a huge upgrade for me, so I am happy.

Shifting Perspectives: A limited number of people know the troubles I’ve seen

Every Tuesday, Shifting Perspectives explores issues affecting feral/restoration druids and those who group with them. This week, we equivocate on the best means of filling a bottomless pit.

Beta build 12759 dropped early Saturday morning, and with it the introduction of mastery and quite a few changes to the feral and restoration specs. I think Blizzard may even have fixed some of the issues with feral damage, but the newest bug on the block is making that a little difficult to tell. The default scrolling combat text is now broken — you can’t see how much damage or healing you’re doing to hostile mobs or friendly players, respectively — so at best, you’re confined to guesses based on how much health the mob’s losing when you hit it. For me, this requires squinting at a very small portion of a laptop screen with my nose two inches from the monitor, and I’ll be damned if I’ll wind up financing the purchase of another Maserati for my ophthalmologist.

Troubles With Your UI? How To Reset Your WoW Folders

Hi there!

This is Valdesta from WoWGrrl.com and I’m going to take you through the process of nuking your interface and WTF folders safely in World of Warcraft.

Fixing WoW UI Problems

Fixing WoW UI Problems

I’m on a Macintosh here but the process will be the same for people on a PC – you’ll have to go into your hard drive and into Program Files and into the World of Warcraft folder to see what I’m seeing on my screen.

You want to find a couple of directories: One of them is Interface, and if you list them alphabetically it might be easier to find things – the other is WTF.

These are the folders you want to know about when you’re having troubles with your game interface, or you’re having problems with long long login or log out times, or you’re getting disconnected before it fully logs out.

If you’re having troubles, these are the first two folders that the World of Warcraft support people are going to ask you to reset. So before you even think about any type of support, this is the first thing you should do.

But what I recommend is that you don’t actually DELETE these folders – that you keep them, but that you do it in a way that the World of Warcraft game re-creates the original folders for you.

Note: When you do this, you’re going to lose a whole bunch of settings (addons, key bindings, etc) because they’re saved in these folders. That’s why I say you shouldn’t delete the folders, but should instead rename them. That way if you ever need to restore the folders to recover something in-game that you forgot about, you can do that.

We’ll just rename the WTF and Interface folders while the game isn’t running, and when the game is started back up it’ll re-create those folders with the original settings and any troubles I was having with the game should be handled.

If you’re still having troubles with WoW after having renamed these folders and restarted the game, you might want to try a game repair, or you might need to re-install entirely.
