Low Culture: Lose yourself in the wild possibilities of Skyrim
Johns Hopkins News-Letter I'm pretty sure I haven't racked hours like these since World of Warcraft, but the bigger point is that I have racked hours like these. And the question is why. It's not the first video game I've ever been immersed so deeply in. … |

WoW Moviewatch: Orc vs Wild: Northrend
If nothing else, Wowcrendor is certainly prolific. He clearly takes his machinima seriously and keeps himself on a rigorous, disciplined production schedule. This is the second movie from Wowcrendor this week. And while we run the risk of turning the column into Wowcrendorwatch instead, we do love seeing what Wowcrendor is doing.
In Orc vs Wild: Northrend, Boar Thrills encounters the challenging terrain in Northrend. Using the natural terrain, fauna, and condors of the land, Boar continues onward throughout the frozen land. Wowcrendor uses this video to poke fun at Bear Grylls and all the tropes and memes about the survival lifestyle. It’s an amusing video, though it does help to be familiar with the genre.

Around Azeroth: Who’s gonna ride your wild horses?
“I found this spot last week by accident running an alt through Mount Hyjal,” writes Lumin of Hellscream (US-A). It made for a nice spooky shot with the Headless Horseman’s mount, and a hi-ho-silver sort of pose overlooking the Sulfuron Spire. P.S.: Kung-Fu Panda expansion looks awesome.”

The Care and Feeding of Warriors: Wild, wild speculation and the BlizzCon effect

Every week, WoW Insider brings you The Care and Feeding of Warriors, the column dedicated to arms, fury and protection warriors. Despite repeated blows to the head from dragons, demons, Old Gods and whatever that thing over there was, Matthew Rossi will be your host.
Well, how about that change to Mortal Strike? I mentioned a few weeks back that it felt to me like arms had lost its teeth in PvP, that it needed all of its cooldowns lined up to really put the hurt on anyone and that it had lost its identity as a force to be reckoned with. Does this change restore it? Well, yes and no. Yes, in that it will indisputably increase arms (and rogue, and hunter pet) potency in the PvP setting. No, in that it will not increase it by all that much. A 10% healing debuff is trivial. A 25% healing debuff is more than twice as good, but we’ll see if that means much against healers at the level of gear they’re going to have.
What the MS change really did to my brain (especially as I write this on the verge of BlizzCon, where hopefully many secrets will be revealed) is think about what I would like them to do for all three warrior specs. What do I want to see? What would I never, ever want to see again? Let us peer into this completely imaginary crystal ball and speculate.
This post will be broken up into two parts. Part one will be my pre-BlizzCon speculations. Then, in part two, I’ll come back after BlizzCon and react to what the announcements are, and see how close I managed to get to the mark.

Shifting Perspectives: Reconsidering Wild Growth

Every week, WoW Insider brings you Shifting Perspectives for cat, bear, restoration and balance druids. This Tuesday, we are still mulling over last week’s subject.
When you blog professionally, you get used to an unfortunate truth: Most of the time, you could have written a better column if you’d had the advantage of reading the comment section first. Unfortunately, none of you jerks had the decency to comment on Shifting Perspectives: When healers run out of options before I published it, so I was stuck writing it without that advantage. Bad commenters! No biscuit.
Suffice it to say that people wrote a lot of interesting stuff on last week’s article, and I’ve been mulling it over ever since.
In news unrelated to this or any other article, I would just like to state that the name Nosferatmoo (glimpsed on a tauren death knight from Misha-US while I was pugging on my goblin priest for the Low Level Tank Project[TM]) is pretty much the best name ever.

Gold Capped: The wild west economy of the patch 4.3 PTR
Every week, WoW Insider brings you Gold Capped, in which Fox Van Allen and Basil “Euripides” Berntsen aim to show you how to make money on the auction house. Feed Fox’s ego — or offer him instant bargains — by emailing him or tweeting him at @foxvanallen.
One of my all-time favorite television shows as a child was $ale of the Century. It was a simple question-and-answer game show with a twist: All correct answers only awarded contestants with . However, at various points in the show, contestants would be given the chance to buy thousands of dollars worth of prizes for next to nothing — a new recliner for , a trip to Hawaii for .
It was a special economy all its own. A trip to Hawaii could cost ,176 in one place while costing in another. It’s the same good ol’ U.S. currency — it’s just that has a far greater value in one context than ,176 has in another.
Like said game, the patch 4.3 PTR operates by a bizarre set of economic rules all its own, if you can even call them rules. It’s the wild west of economies. Anything goes. The fantastic BOE Mekgineer’s Chopper is normally valued at 15,000 gold. But today, on Sale of the Azerothian Century, that Chopper can be yours for only … 1 silver. Or 240,000 gold. Depends on who your seller is.

Gold Capped: The wild west economy of the patch 4.3 PTR
Joystiq Obviously, there are plenty of differences, too — the most notable being how WoW makes money out of thin air. Still, all considered, World of Warcraft makes a pretty interesting sandbox to see how markets will react to extraordinary circumstances. … |
WoW Moviewatch: Orc vs. Wild: Moonguard
Wowcrendor tackles the complicated subject of RP servers in Orc vs. Wild: Moonguard/Goldshire RP Server. Boar Thrills crafts a gnome disguise from local fauna and enters Goldshire to spy on the wily, somewhat quirky roleplayers. He blends in by walking and immediately meets a truly immersed roleplayer.
I found this video especially interesting because it’s the first time Wowcrendor has tackled roleplay culture. Certainly, most of the creator’s videos involve immersion and escapism, but story-based roleplay hadn’t been directly addressed. Roleplayers might not be a huge fan of the portrayal. Still, I can’t help but think exactly how true to Goldshire this video actually is.

WoW Moviewatch: Orc vs. Wild Outlands
Wowcrendor is back with an update to the ongoing adventures of Boar Thrills. In Orc vs. Wild Outlands, Boar warns adventurers of dangers like Fel Reavers, bad jokes, and hellboars. Wowcrendor really did an inventive job translating Outland into the world of Boar Thrills, giving us a quick treat of an adventure.
This is an especially charming romp through Outland, a territory that many contemporary players only saw briefly during their journey to level 85. It’s nice to see Wowcrendor revisiting these old zones and bringing a bit of humor to the place. It’s been a long time since I thought about these areas, and I welcome the reminder.
